Drag Racing #9 : 1987 NHRA

1-DVD (104 Minutes)

Some great drag racing action from 1987! First up is an excellent recap of the entire 1987
NHRA season from Diamond P Sports (the source of this DVD is from an old VHS tape, but
quality remains excellent!), followed by the 1987 Bakersfield Fuel & Gas Championship, a
tremendous Funny Car race from Bakersfield California.

1987 NHRA Review (88 min)
A fantastic recap, nearly 90 minutes worth, of the exciting 1987 season. Despite an amazing season by Joe Amato, the
Top Fuel Champion would end up being Dick LaHaie, who held off Amato and Darrell Gwynn to take his first and only Top
Fuel title. Throughout the season, drag racing fans became enamored with LaHaie’s tuning ability, as well as his
daughter Kim Lahaie’s excellent pit work. When Lahaie retired in 1991, he became crew chief for Scott Kalitta starting
in 1993, and captured 2 more Top Fuel titles. As for the rest of 1987, Kenny Bernstein and Bob Glidden retained their
dominance on the Funny Car and Pro Stock categories respectively. Just like the other excellent Diamond P Season
Reviews, this video recaps each race of the season, all the highlights, crashes, and memorable moments.

1987 Bakersfield Fuel & Gas Championship – Bakersfield, CA (15 min)
Fantastic video quality, and tremendous sound! This race from Bakersfield 1986 is short but sweet. The footage
for this segment was originally from a 1987 video titled “Funny Car Experience”, but we have included just the
1987 Bakersfield footage here (without any jet cars or extraneous music overdubs found on the original
VHS tape). Ed “The Ace” McCulloch faces John Force in the final round.
