Draggin’ Into The 70’s – Volume 4

1-DVD (145 Minutes)

1970 U.S. Nationals Top Fuel Final – Indianapolis, IN – (4 min)
Leading off this disc is some restored footage of the dramatic Top Fuel final round at the 1970 U.S. Nationals.
As Don Prudhomme and Jim Nicoll cross the finish line, Nicoll’s dragster explodes. The rail dragster is cut in
half and his roll cage (with parachute attached) flies off to the side of the track while the rest of the chassis
(with engine still attached) spins like a pinwheel in front of a horrified Don Prudhomme. Visibly shaken by
what he just witnessed, ABC-TV is there for an interview with Prudhomme who is speechless, believing that
Nicoll was killed in the accident (he was ok). (Condition – VG+ to Excellent)

1970 Drag Racing Documentary – (20 min)
A tremendous film focusing on the Ronnie Sox, but great footage from
all the NHRA classes at the 1970 World Finals. (Condition – VG+ to Excellent)

1972 Drag Racing Documentary – (22 min)
Titled “It Sure Went Up In Smoke”, this film focuses on Garlits and Prudhomme with some footage of
Shirley Muldowney and her funny car. An ABC Sports presentation, the quality of this film is subpar (we
cleaned it up best we could) but still watchable. Included here because of the historic footage of
Muldowney’s funny car and Prudhomme’s Hot Wheels Top Fuel dragster.  (Condition – Fair to Good)

1975 World Finals – First 5-second Funny Car run – (2 min)
Original footage of Don Prudhomme cracking the 5-second barrier for the first time. (Condition – VG+)

“American Nitro” – 1979 Drag Racing Documentary – (72 min)
An excellent, original film covering the various drivers in the NHRA at that time. Some great footage
of Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen and Don “The Snake” Prudhomme. (Condition – VG+)

“Life In The Quick Lane” – 1980 Documentary – (24 min)
This is a 1980 documentary, but covers the 1979 season so we included it in our “Draggin’ Into The 70’s”
DVD series. Another great documentary featuring McEwen, Prudhomme, McCulloch (Corvette funny car),
“Dyno Don”, Bob Glidden, Don Garlits, and more. (Condition – Excellent)
