1994 Pacific Grand Prix - Complete Race
1-DVD : 118 min.              Quality : Excellent
This is the complete race as broadcast on live TV.
The second race of the 1994 season, held at the Aida Circuit in Japan, a track used only twice on the F1
schedule before the FIA determined the track was simply too remote and out of the mainstream to
have a Formula 1 race. Ayrton Senna was looking to get back to his winning ways after parting with
McLaren at the end of the 1993 season. At the first race of the 1994 season at Interlagos, Senna spun
himself out trying to catch the Benetton of Michael Schumacher, and Ayrton was suspicious that
Benetton were somehow using illegal traction control devices. There was increasing discontent that the
new F1 rules for 1994 were not being properly policed.

Qualifying resulted in Ayrton Senna showing all his skill to take the Williams to pole position ahead of
Michael Schumacher. Damon Hill was third in his Williams, the McLaren of Mika Hakkinen fourth,
Gerhard Berger (Ferrari) fifth, and Martin Brundle (McLaren) sixth. At the start, Michael Schumacher
jumped in front of Senna, but heading into the first turn, Schumacher lifted slightly, and when Senna
checked up he was struck from behind by Mika Hakkinen. Senna would walk back to the garage,
surrounded by the paparazzi, pausing occasionally to watch Schumacher pass. Sadly, this would be the
last race Ayrton Senna would walk away from, as he was killed in a tragic accident at the next race at
Imola. Schumacher proceeded to drive away from the rest of the field at a remarkable pace while
Mika Hakkinen ran second. Damon Hill tried to pass Hakkinen on lap four, but spun off as a result. He
rejoined in ninth place, then charged back to fourth by the time of the pit stops. While making a pit
stop, Hakkinen stalled his McLaren. He would rejoin the race, but his hydraulic system was fading, and
he was out on lap 19. This left Michael Schumacher with a lead of half a minute over second place
Gerhard Berger and third place Rubens Barrichello. Schumacher went on to take the win, followed by
Gerhard Berger in the Ferrari, and rounding out the podium was Rubens Barrichello in the Jordan.

This is a EuroSport Live broadcast, with commentary (in English) by Allard Kalff and John Watson.
