|1990 Formula 1 Season Review
|1-DVD : 120 min. (2 hours) Quality : Excellent
|A fantastic review of the 1990 F1 season, covering each race in detail, and so
much more! Originally produced at the end of the 1990 season, this 2-hour video
continues the excitement and drama from the previous season, where one of
greatest rivalries in all motorsports, Ayrton Senna vs. Alain Prost, enters a new
phase. Alain Prost was fed up with Senna, so he signs on to replace Gerhard
Berger at Team Ferrari. And sparks would fly again in 1990...
|It was Ayrton Senna versus Alain Prost for the third season in a row. Senna had more problems on his hands than just
losing the 1989 championship to Prost. Before the 1990 season even started, Senna was banned because of his
criticism of FISA president Jean-Marie Balestre, whom he accused of manipulating the 1989 title in favor of Prost.
It was only just before the season the began that Senna was readmitted to F1. Alain Prost was fed up with Senna,
and signed with Ferrari for 1990, a move that did not sit well with McLaren Team president Ron Dennis. Alain Prost
was now teammates with Nigel Mansell, proving to be a formidable combination. The Williams Team kept
Thierry Boutsen and Riccardo Patrese, while Benetton hired Nelson Piquet from Lotus.
Trick fuels were all the rage, with the top teams and the fuel suppliers introducing "aromatics" as they
played around with fuel chemistry in their quest for extra horsepower. For most teams, though, what
they really needed was the Honda engine enjoyed by McLaren or that in the Ferraris.
Senna would go to win 6 of the 16 races this year, while Prost would win 5, with the final 2 races of the year being won
by Nelson Piquet. With only about 10 points separating Senna and Prost going into the 1990 Japanese Grand Prix, the
site of their famous 1989 clash, sparks flew as they collided yet again, both cars being eliminated from the race.
Ayrton Senna would go to win his 2nd World Championship.
