|1987 Detroit Grand Prix - Complete Race
|1-DVD : 115 min. Quality : VG
|This is the complete race as broadcast on live TV.
|A race from the past, from the long forgotten Detroit Grand Prix circuit. This was listed as the
1987 U.S. Grand Prix, but usually referred to as the Detroit Grand Prix. Nigel Mansell took the
pole just in front of Ayrton Senna's Lotus and Nelson Piquet's Williams.
At the start of the race, Mansell takes the lead and begins to pull away from Senna, while behind in the
midfield Stefan Johansson (McLaren) damaged a front wing on the back of Warwick's Arrows. Satoru
Nakajima (Lotus-Honda) crashed into the back of Ivan Capelli's Leyton House March, and then managed
to collide with Adrian Campos's Minardi at the next corner. Behind the two front-runners, Piquet had
trouble keeping Cheever behind him and eventually gave himself a puncture when he tapped a wheel and
had to pit for new tires. Alboreto went out with gearbox failure and so Prost was third as the pit stops
approached. During the stops Mansell had a wheel nut stick on his car and lost 10 seconds, which put
Senna into the lead. Ayrton Senna won at his ease, with Piquet second and Prost third. The remaining
points went to Berger, Mansell and Cheever.
Quality is not as clear as the other races we have, but still very watchable, and a fascinating look into a
long forgotten street circuit. This is an original CBS Sports broadcast, commentary by Ken Squier
and David Hobbs, with pit reporters Chris Economaki and Dave Despain.
