|1985 Detroit Grand Prix - Complete Race
|1-DVD : 111 min. Quality : VG+
|This is the complete race as broadcast on live TV.
|The official title of this race is the United States Grand Prix being that it was the only American
Formula 1 race left on the schedule, but it is usually referred to as the Detroit Grand Prix.
Ayrton Senna is on pole in his Lotus-Renault John Player Special, followed by Nigel Mansell (Williams),
Michele Alboreto (Ferrari), Alain Prost (McLaren), and Keke Rosberg (Williams). Ayrton Senna took the
lead, while Keke Rosberg drove an amazing opening lap to go from fifth to second place. On this tight
Detroit street circuit, Senna's tires began to go away early, and on the eighth lap Keke Rosberg takes
the lead. Senna went into the pits for a tire change and dropped back down the order, leaving the two
Williams cars of Nigel Mansell and Keke Rosberg to run 1-2. Mansell would spin on lap 20, and Elio de
Angelis (Senna's Lotus teammate) moved to second. Also on lap 20, Alain Prost had problems with his
brakes and dropped out of the race. Meanwhile, Martin Brundle (Tyrrell) found his car to be very
competitive, and he passed Michele Alboreto for fourth. Elio De Angelis was then forced into the pits
when he snagged a front wing while going through backmarkers. On lap 50, Keke Rosberg had to pit to
get some paper out of his radiators, but he also took on new tires. Senna was making good progress and
challenging Michele Alboreto for third, but on lap 52 Senna made a mistake and crashed. Keke Rosberg
comes home the winner ahead of the Ferrari Team of Stefan Johansson and Michele Alboreto.
This is a live CBS-TV broadcast, with commentators Ken Squier, Chris Economaki, and David Hobbs.
