|1982 British Grand Prix - Complete Race
|1-DVD : 92 min. Quality : VG+
|This is the complete race as broadcast on live TV.
|Heading into the 1982 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, John Watson was leading the World
Championship by one point over Didier Pironi. Qualifying was interesting to say the least, with a
non-turbocharged Williams, driven by Keke Rosberg, taking the pole. On the parade lap, Rosberg's
Williams-Cosworth stalled, so Riccardo Patrese took over the pole position. But when the race started,
Patrese's Brabham stalled, and Nelson Piquet took off into the lead. Didier Pironi swerved to avoid
Patrese's stalled Brabham, but Arnoux wasn't so lucky, slamming into the back of Patrese's car,
effectively ending his day. Points leader John Watson swerved to avoid the whole mess, and ended up in
the grass, while a detached wheel from Arnoux's car takes out Tao Fabi's car.
Meanwhile, on lap 1, Nelson Piquet led Niki Lauda, while Keke Rosberg, after his stall on the starting
grid during the parade lap, drove like a madman to make up eight places. On lap 2, Chico Serra collided
with Jean-Pierre Jarier. Watson swerved to avoid the crash, which ended his day as well.
On lap 10, leader Nelson Piquet suddenly slowed with a mechanical failure, handing the lead to Lauda. As
the race went on, Keke Rosberg had to pit, and Derek Warwick broke a CV joint. Didier Pironi ended up
back in second place, with De Angelis in third. On the final lap, De Angelis suffered a fuel problem, and
Patrick Tambay and his Ferrari took the 3rd podium spot, with his teammate Didier Pironi taking 2nd.
Another excellent broadcast by Murray Walker, and the usual colorful commentary by James Hunt.
